The painted faux marble is a classic use of paint where the cost of real marble would be prohibitive. This work could not be detected as being painted even from close inspection.

Above is a section of wall in a wine cellar in Kamloops BC, that is carved from sprayed foam and painted with blockfilla and ground walnut shells to give the feel of stone.

The painted stone has been carefully matched to real stone samples, and washes of various colours are spritzed and ragged on, then spatters (small dots of paint) are applied to complete the faux stone look.

This barrel is not what it appears to be. It is carved out of a piece of blue styrofoam insulation and finished to appear as old oak. This wonderful painting project is a wine cellar in Kamloops BC.
